چکیده

As part of a program to develop mobile robots for reactor environments, we are developing a radiation-imaging camera capable of operating in medium-intensity ( < 2 R/h), medium-energy ( < 8 MeV) gamma-ray fields . A systematic study of available detectors indicated the advisability of a high-Z scintillator. The raster-scanning camera uses a lead-shielded bismuth germanate (BGO) scmtillator (1 .25 cm x1 .25 cm right-circular cylinder) coupled to a photomultiplier tube (PMT) operated in pulse mode . Measurements yielded an angular resolution of 2.5° and energy resolution of 12.9% at 662 keV. The camera motion is totally automated and controlled by stepping motors connected to a remote computer . Several 2D images of radioactive sources have been acquired in fields of up to 400 mR/h and energies up to 2 .75 MeV. Some of the images demonstrate the ability of the camera to image a polychromatic field .

Enhancing and verification of dose in external radiation therapy using Gd nanoparticles as a theranostic agent: A Monte Carlo simulation study

Introduction: Theranostics, in particular, the use of radionuclides with the capability of simultaneous imaging and treatment has opened new horizons in personalized treatment planning of targeted radiation therapy. In this approach, positive beta or gamma emitters are required for imaging and alpha, beta and Auger electrons for treatment purpose. On the other hand, studies hav...

Bremsstrahlung imaging from the liver using the Monte Carlo simulation

Introduction: Most beta and gamma radiation radioisotopes used for treatment are not suitable for imaging. The bremsstrahlung images on a conventional gamma camera helped to localize the radionuclide within and outside of the lesion. Secondary scattering of gamma rays of higher energy and bremsstrahlung causes contamination in the energy window and reducing the contrast and resolution of the im...

IMPLEMENTATION OF EXTENDED KALMAN FILTER TO REDUCE NON CYCLO-STATIONARY NOISE IN AERIAL GAMMA RAY SURVEY

Gamma-ray detection has an important role in the enhancement the nuclear safety and provides a proper environment for applications of nuclear radiation. To reduce the risk of exposure, aerial gamma survey is commonly used as an advantage of the distance between the detection system and the radiation sources. One of the most important issues in aerial gamma survey is the detection noise. Various...

New approach for calibration of pixelated scintillation detectors of intraoperative gamma cameras

Introduction:SURGEOSIGHT is a dedicated intra-operative hand-held gamma camera designed and manufactured by our team to be used for lymphoscintigraphy. Although conventional gamma cameras are widely used, they lack the capability of the sentinel lymph node (SLN) imaging in the operation room. Like conventional gamma cameras it is necessary to calibrate SURGEOSIGHT for linearity...

A New Analysis Method for Reconstructing the Arrival Direction of TeV Gamma-rays Using a Single Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope

We present a method of atmospheric Cherenkov imaging which reconstructs the unique arrival direction of TeV gamma rays using a single telescope. The method is derived empirically and utilizes several features of gamma-ray induced air showers which determine, to a precision of 0.12◦, the arrival direction of photons, on an eventby-event basis. Data from the Whipple Observatory’s 10 m gamma-ray t...
